The joy of homeschooling

As a homeschool mom I have some good days and some bad days.

Usually the bad days happen when I'm in a bad mood, grouchy, crampy, or am lacking sleep. (The lacking sleep thing seems to be a real problem lately) And sometimes the kids are just bad.

The good days are great days. Everyone gets their work done quickly and quietly. No one fussess, or bugs another one. Those days are a homeschoolers dream.

But the best day is when I get to see the light come on in my childs eye. When, after weeks of work, they finally "get it!". When one of my kids smiles at me, says "I got it!", pumps his fist in the air, or does a little happy dance. Man, those are some great moments!

Yesterday Anna had that moment. Last year I didn't work with her the way I should have and she (and I) have paid the price for it. She was terribly behind on her reading. It wasn't her fault, it was all mine, but I had to get her caught up. And fast!

When she was reading yesterday and wasn't having to sound out every word, not having to ask me for help to complete a new story, the smile on her face and the light in her eyes was almost too much for me to bear!

That moment was when I remembered why I homeschool. It was a great moment in time. One that I have shared with all three of the boys and now Anna.

Oh, the joys of homeschooling!

  1. Love it, love it, love it!! That "I got it!" light is my absolute favorite, too.

  2. Sweet!
I think one of mine had a lightbulb moment in math today...I just hope it really was and lasts 'til tomorrow.
Sometimes it's hard, isn't it? But worth it.
